If you ask anyone in the ngm team how they feel about Summer School, I can almost guarantee you that every reaction will be along the lines of ‘It’s one of the highlights of my year!” There is a genuine love for this week of arts training for young people age 13-19 that we run in August each year.
Summer School started in 2007 and since then it has grown and grown and now sees over 70 young people attending each year to experience not only excellent training in their artform but also to encounter God and see their lives transformed.
I personally have a real deep love for Summer School. In 2007 as a teenager I stumbled across ngm through the musical ‘Luv Esther’ whilst it toured Scotland. I signed myself up for a week-long training course in dance as a young non-Christian, rebellious teen and found my life turned upside down. I not only discovered that God was actually real, but that he loved me, and had a plan for my life. I would never have guessed that 7 years on, I’d be coordinating the course alongside a great team!
Summer School sees a wide range of young people with different church backgrounds, and some with no church backgrounds, but no one leaves disappointed. During the week we have arts training in our £3 million complex giving young people the opportunity to use facilities such as our dance studio, rehearsal rooms, performance venue and recording studios. Also each day we have worship, small groups and seminars which deepen our understanding of God as our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, whilst at the same time providing a safe place for big and little questions, prayer and wisdom. Each evening we meet together for worship, inspiring talks with space to respond and encounter God. During the week we also let the young people experience Dj-led worship and this is always a huge hit with everyone. We also have a lot of fun, teambuilding, filming, contests and a ridiculous amount of laughter. The whole week is just an incredible God-filled environment and it is an honour to be able to be part of it.
Summer School is a life changing week, not only to encourage the younger generation to reach for their dreams but also to release the power of God on their lives which they then carry back to their home churches inspiring the rest of their families and young people to run the race well.

Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who had an input in my week. It’s changed my life…I literally feel like I have such a strong relationship with God …today in church I shared twice and prayed for everyone and worshiped with my hands in the air without caring what people would think about me!!
