As many of you will be aware, last year Ray had a cancerous tumour removed from his pancreas. From there he went through six months of chemo and almost 6 weeks for Radiotherapy with more chemo. Just before going on holiday Ray had a CT scan which he was told looked to the naked eye clear, although they did not have the full report from the Radiologist. Ray and Nancy were cleared to go on holiday.

An hour before getting the taxi to the airport Ray was in severe pain. The hospital said it was probably an ulcer and treated him for this. A couple of days later Ray was well enough to go on holiday. During the holiday there were times when he was in severe pain and other times in some pain but much of the time there was no pain and he was feeling very well. They had a wonderful time on holiday and made many wonderful memories. A couple of days after coming home however, he was in severe pain and was admitted to hospital. It was then that they were told that the CT scan did show that there was cancer at various places in the stomach etc. They took another CT scan and it showed that Ray had a thickening on the small bowel. This thickening is cancer. They have said there is nothing they can do. They are talking with the palliative team today (Monday) as they may be able to give him drugs which could reduce the swelling, thus allowing him to eat which would give him longer to live. Otherwise they cannot tell how long Ray has – but our estimate would be maybe a couple of weeks. This is not the news Ray and Nancy and the ngm family was wanting to hear.

Ray has been incredibly peaceful throughout – he is certainly experiencing the peace that passes all understanding. We still know that God has the last word and that it is not over till he says it is over. We also know that cancer will not kill Ray, but that God will take him when it’s the right time. Ray knows clearly that God has said that his days are numbered and that God will not take him a day too soon or a day too late. Nancy woke up with a verse going through her mind on Friday morning from Romans 4 – Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Abraham was fully persuaded that God had the power to do what he had promised. Ray and Nancy are fully persuaded that God has the power to do what he has promised – and therefore we continue to trust in his unfailing love. The promise God gave Ray and Nancy back in November is from Psalm 91 – a 1000 may fall at your side and 10,000 at your right hand, but it will not come near you. They also know that God gets the last word. Whatever happens God will not leave them nor will he forsake them.

Do continue to pray and surround Ray and Nancy and their family, Daniel and Aidan (their boys) and Leanne (Aidan’s fiancée) with your prayers at this difficult time.

Also please do pray for the family of ngm. Ray and Nancy are keen that the work of new generation music continues and we will be fulfilling the events we have in the diary and will be continuing to develop all we do.
